Sound Physics Remastered changes how sound moves through the Minecraft world. Instead of playing every sound at the same volume through walls and open air, the mod calculates echo, muffling, and fading based on the blocks around the player and the sound source.
Echo, Reverb, and Muffled Sounds
Sounds bounce off nearby blocks before they reach the listener. A large cave or a stone hall produces a clear echo, while a small wooden room sounds short and dry. Each block type has its own reflectivity, so stone, wood, wool, and glass do not sound the same.
Blocks between the player and a sound source absorb part of it. A creeper behind a wall or a mob under the floor sounds quieter and duller than one in plain view. This gives better hints about where a sound comes from and makes caves and dungeons feel more tense.
The mod is a fork of Sound Physics Fabric, which was based on the original Sound Physics. This version runs much faster than the original, fixes sounds that only bounced once, and adds a Forge and NeoForge port.
Configuration and Voice Chat Support
Reverb strength, attenuation, block occlusion, and the reflectivity of single blocks can be adjusted. Debug options can draw sound bounces and occlusion rays in the world, which helps when tuning the values. Players can open a settings screen with Cloth Config API, and on Fabric also with Mod Menu.
The mod is built to work with Simple Voice Chat. Player voices then echo and get muffled the same way as game sounds. Sound Physics Remastered runs on the client and does not need to be installed on the server.
