Deeper and Darker expands the Deep Dark from a dangerous underground biome into a complete adventure. It adds new materials, creatures, equipment, building blocks, and a separate dimension called the Otherside. Reaching it requires defeating the Warden and obtaining its heart, so the new content is tied to late-game exploration.
Exploring the Otherside
The Otherside contains several distinct biomes, including the Deeplands, Echoing Forest, Overcast Columns, and Blooming Caverns. Each area has its own terrain, vegetation, colors, and resources. The dimension feels closely connected to sculk while offering far more variety than the original Deep Dark.
Players can discover an ancient temple filled with valuable objects and hidden threats. Breaking ancient vases may awaken an Ancient Lurker, so searching the structure requires some caution. The mod introduces eight new mobs, including a miniboss, giving the dimension more activity and danger.
Blocks, Tools, and Equipment
More than one hundred building blocks become available, including gloomslate, sculk stone, and a completely new wood set. These materials are useful outside the Otherside as well, especially for dark temples, underground bases, and builds designed around sculk.
Progression also rewards players with a Warden-themed armor and tool set. Other useful items include an improved elytra and the sculk transmitter. Together with hidden recipes and environmental details, the new equipment gives exploration a clear purpose beyond simply visiting another dimension.
